Indications:
Acute and chronic bronchopulmonary disorders e.g. Pneumonia, Bronchitis, Tracheobronchitis, Chronic asthmatic bronchitis, Tuberculosis, Primary amyloidosis of the lung. Acetylcysteine is also indicated in the treatment of Paracetamol overdose.

Mode of Action:
Acetylcysteine and its metabolic byproduct cysteine exert its mucolytic action through its free sulfhydryl (-SH) group, which reduces the disulfide bonds in the mucus matrix and lowers mucus viscosity.
