Description:
Ivermectin is a semi-synthetic, Anthelmintic agent derived from the class of Avermectins which is highly active broad spectrum anti-parasitic agent used to treat many types of parasite infestations like Scabies, River-blindness (onchocerciasis), Strongyloidiasis, Trichuriasis, Ascariasis and Lymphatic Filariasis. Ivermectin is also being studied as a potential antiviral agent against the chikungunya and yellow fever.

Mode of Action:
Ivermectin selectively binds and with high affinity to glutamate-gated chloride ion channels, which occur in invertebrate nerve and muscle cells leading to an increase in the permeability of cell membranes to chloride ions with hyperpolarization of the nerve or muscle cell and ultimately ensures death of the parasite.
