Aminophylline is a combination of theophylline and ethylene diamine. Its action and uses are similar to theophylline but it is more soluble in water than theophylline.
Mode of action:
Aminophylline, a complex of theophylline with ethylenediamine (2:1 ratio) readily liberates theophylline in the body. Theophylline is a competitive antagonist of adenosine (A1 and A2 receptor).
Control of acute asthma and acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive lung disease; Management of chronic asthma; Management of chronic obstructive lung disease; Control of apnoea of prematurity.
Dosage & Administration:
Tablet: 100 to 300 mg 3 to 4 times daily after food; children aged 6 months to 8 years are 1 mg per kg per hr, for 9 to 16 years, 0.8 mg per kg per hr.
